Does the European Accessibility Act apply to my website?
It has applied since 28 June 2025 to consumer services such as e-commerce, banking, e-books, ticketing and electronic communications. If people can buy from your site, it counts as e-commerce. Micro-enterprises providing services — fewer than 10 staff and turnover or balance sheet up to €2 million — are exempt.
What standard do I need to meet?
The European standard EN 301 549, which in practice means WCAG 2.1 level AA: customers must be able to find, understand and buy using a keyboard only, a screen reader, zoomed text or a phone in bright sun.
Can an accessibility widget make me compliant?
No. Overlay widgets don't fix missing labels in checkout or a menu that won't open with a keyboard — the problems are in the design and code, and that's where they have to be fixed.
